Capturing Carnevale di Ivrea (Battle of the Oranges) on Instagram
Ivrea, a town in northern Italy, plays host to one of the biggest food fights in Europe every year. Attendees in traditional dress from the middle ages flood the streets and are encouraged to pelt each other with oranges.
The Carnevale di Ivrea (Battle of the Oranges) is the fabled recreation of a medieval battle between townspeople and guards—the origins of which are a mixture of legend and history about driving an evil tyrant out of the city. With horse-drawn carts and helmets, organized teams gather in the town’s square for the battle, leaving only a trail of pulp and peel as evidence of destruction.
What we can do for another is the test of powers; what we can suffer for is the test of love.

Went through my archives… and read a lot of interesting stuff ;) I like to think that having came through two full decades, I have grown to be a better person - or at least came closer to what I envisioned myself to be. Even though there were mishaps along the way, I’m thankful that none of the pancakes stuck to the ceiling (hah!). At least I (try to) write, I read (tourist guides and childish bestsellers) regularly, I actively learn about modern art (through the lousy Internet), I have my own ongoing projects (that go on and off intermittently), and I have come to know myself better (hell yeaa). That’s enough for now, I think.
Time to brace my twenties.

Having gone through a whole lot of photos in the past month (I’m usually too lazy to work with them, so when I say a lot, I really mean A LOT), it’s intriguing to see how my perception of balance, colour, and perspectives have changed over the years. From portrait to landscape, macro to panoramas, flashy vibrants to more subtle tints. Different albums, in particular those of my little escapades, each provoke different memories. A laugh, a conversation, a family dinner, or simply the harsh cold (I swore I wouldn’t ever brave again). Things I wouldn’t have been able to remember if not for these powerful visuals. So thankful to have let this come into my life.
And I’m ready to move on to my twenties.
